View of Mackinac Island5 viewsEven though it is spelled with a "c" on the end, it is pronounced Mackinaw. The spelling was changed in Mackinaw City to avoid confusion in the post office with Mackinaw Island.Jun 11, 2008

Randal and Danny9 viewsIn their element...Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-20.jpg
Raison d'etre6 viewsThis is why we do it: Clear, cold mornings, peace and quiet, sitting around doing nothing by the fire. When I get outside and go camping, all of those things I think have to get done, just disappear and seem trivial.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-21.jpg
Campsite6 viewsThis was our campsite. Danny and I slept in his tent to the right and Randal slept in his tent to the left. The first night we stayed here, the temperature dropped to 26 degrees and the tents were covered with frost.Dec 01, 2007

11-29-2007-18.jpg
Chair collision7 viewsThere were several cars bunched up together just over us and we all wondered if there had been some sort of accident. On the bottom left, the shower house and bathrooms can be seen. This building actually had heat which made showering much more pleasant.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-17.jpg
Campground view7 viewsThis is a view from the campground. Overhead, you can see the chair lift cables.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-16.jpg
Chair lift to spooky town9 viewsWe camped under an old chair lift that is no longer used. When it was operating, it ran to the top of the hill where there was an old west town and shopping village. The chairlift is visible in the far right of the photo and some of the buildings at the top of the hill are visible in the top left quadrant of this photo.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-15.jpg
A rare gay moment6 viewsI snapped this photo of Randal while he was arranging a bouquet of flowers to place on the altar he built.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-14.jpg
Rear view from campsite5 viewsThis photo shows the rest of the campsite behind us with a nearly empty lake in the center. The campground manager, Ron, told us that the lake had sprung a leak a while back but they had not had enough rain to fill it back up. Apparently there are some good fish in this lake but the low water level might have killed some of them off.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-13.jpg
Big Hairy sighting7 viewsIn the center of this photo, you can seen the wild and hairy beast that inhabits all of the campsites where we camp. Known as Big Hairy, photos are rare of this animal but is often seen streaking through the woods.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-12.jpg
Ravine and pond7 viewsAt the opposite end of the campground from where we camped, this ravine gathered the runoff from the hills around it.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-11.jpg
Denim Humanum5 viewsDenim Humanum is a cave dwelling creature seen here emerging from his lair.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-10.jpg
Low ceiling7 viewsThis was a very low hanging rock that led to an opening on the other side and Randal is seen here coming out of it, still gimpy from his auto accident.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-09.jpg
Another crevice6 viewsThis was another crevice in the rocks that formed a wall around the campgrounds.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-08.jpg
Close up of tree7 viewsI was trying to get a more distant shot of one of the crevices in the rocks but only managed to get a close of the tree in the foreground.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-07.jpg
Explorer Hugh8 viewsThere were several of these crevices in the rocks that surrounded the campgrounds. We explored them looking for caves, but none of them actually were.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-06.jpg
Interesting sticks8 viewsI took this photo because of the concentration of these sticks in this area. They look like some sort of webbing when you look through them. Even without leaves, they were thick enough to block your view.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-05.jpg
The cloaked camping ghoul6 viewsIn this photo, Danny is being stalked by some kind of cloaked ghoul to the right in the photo. Actually, it was just his wool coat that David made for him out of a wool blanket.Dec 01, 2007
11-29-2007-04.jpg
Chili night camping5 viewsDanny made some chili our second night at this campsite and it was really good.Dec 01, 2007
